The day began at 5 a.m. with last-minute packing and running around the house, triple-checking bags to ensure nothing had been left behind. Then we set off for the airport just after 6 a.m., arriving exactly three hours before takeoff. After saying my goodbyes to my family, I was on my way.
The airport was quiet at this hour, allowing me to check in and go through security in just 20 minutes. Once my bags were checked in and I had my boarding pass in hand, I was finally able to take a moment to breathe, grab a coffee, and keep an eye on the departure board. Time flew, and before I knew it, I was 30,000 feet in the sky.
The last time I visited America was in early primary school, so I was excited to see how it would compare to my early memories. Upon landing, I was picked up from the airport, and we headed straight to Brooklyn to visit Pratt Institute. There, I picked up my ID, checked into my accommodation, and had a quick lunch to celebrate all that had been accomplished. My accommodation is in a beautiful Brooklyn neighbourhood, full of charm and character. The 12-story building offers stunning views from all hours of the day, especially from the windows of my top-floor room.
After unpacking, I decided to be adventurous and test out the subway, heading to Manhattan. Fortunately, it was all on one line, and I could ask for help if needed from those in the station. Stepping off the subway, I was immediately immersed in the hustle and bustle of the big city, feeling overjoyed and grateful. As the sun set, I took the perfect opportunity to explore and reflect on the last 24 hours. It was the perfect way to end my first day in New York City.
